What does it cost to install an EV charger at home?
A home EV charger in Kent costs from £1,200 including VAT (£1,000 ex VAT) supplied and installed, for a 7kW smart charger with up to 15m of cable. That price should include the charger, a dedicated circuit with its own protection, DNO notification, full testing and certification. It rises if you need a fuse board upgrade, a long or buried cable run, or a supply to a detached garage, and a proper installer prices those separately before you commit, not on install day.
Read the answerWhy does my fuse board keep tripping?
A fuse board trips because something is drawing too much current or leaking current to earth. The most common cause by a distance is a faulty appliance, and you can usually find it by unplugging everything on the affected circuit, resetting, then plugging items back one at a time. If the breaker trips with nothing plugged in, the fault is in the fixed wiring and needs an electrician. Never tape a breaker on or keep resetting one that trips immediately.
Read the answerDo I need a full rewire, or just a new fuse board?
Most older houses do not need a full rewire. If the cabling is PVC and in reasonable condition, a modern consumer unit plus some targeted circuit work will usually bring the installation up to standard for a fraction of the cost. A full rewire is genuinely needed when the cabling itself has failed, typically rubber or fabric insulated cable, lead sheathing, or PVC that has gone brittle. An EICR tells you which of the two you are looking at.
Read the answerHow much does an EICR cost in Kent?
An EICR on a typical Kent home costs from £294 including VAT (£245 ex VAT) in 2026 for a property with up to 12 circuits, and from £378 including VAT (£315 ex VAT) for a larger house with 13 to 20 circuits. Landlords and agents are quoted ex VAT. Remedial work is always quoted separately, and any inspection priced far below that is usually sampling circuits rather than testing all of them.
