Where the standard comes from

TDR started in Sevenoaks with one van, and the reviews from those years read the way they do because the same three things happened on every job: we turned up when we said we would, priced the work in writing before starting, and left the house cleaner than we found it. That is the standard, and it is written into how the company works, not held in one person's head.

The business is growing so it can hold that standard at more front doors, not fewer. There is an admin team who work the job queue every day, a small group of engineers who work to the same checklist, and an apprentice joining this autumn. The person who quotes your job, the person who does it and the person who answers when you ring back all work to the same rules.

What being NAPIT registered actually means

NAPIT is a government-approved competent person scheme, the same category as NICEIC. It means our work is independently assessed, and that we can self-certify notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations rather than paying building control to sign it off. Our registration number is 74093, and you can check it on the NAPIT register.

Practically, that matters twice. It matters when you sell the house and the buyer's solicitor asks for certificates, and it matters to your insurer if anything ever goes wrong. Work that is not certified by a registered installer can cause you problems years later.

One correction worth making: we are NAPIT registered, not NICEIC. If you see NICEIC mentioned anywhere in connection with us, it is wrong, and we would like to know where you saw it.

The guarantees, in plain terms

Every job carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee from TDR. If something we fitted plays up inside a year, we come back and put it right and you pay nothing. On top of that, registered work carries the 6-year NAPIT Work Quality Guarantee, which is backed by the scheme rather than by us, so it stands whatever happens to the company.

We also carry £5m public liability insurance, which is the cover that matters if something goes wrong with your property rather than with our work.
